Kindergarten

The Early Years Foundation Stage

At CISG, the foundation stage of education is available to boys and girls aged 3 to 5 years.  This phase in education at CISG is referred to as KG (Kindergarten) and covers a two year period:

v  KG1 for children aged 3 to 4 years

v  KG2 for children aged 4 to 5 years

The programme is The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), a UK programme designed to prepare children for The National Curriculum for England which is delivered in the primary and secondary schools. The EYFS focuses on developing the whole child, including the social skills, knowledge and understanding that children need for the future. The medium of teaching is English, with Arabic as the language of instruction in Arabic and Islamic Studies lessons.

Children in KG are introduced to reading and writing in English and Arabic, Science, Mathematics, ICT (Information and Communication Technology), Islamic Studies and French. These subjects develop literacy, numeracy and oracy and are delivered through interactive and engaging lessons in which the children are encouraged and helped to develop their skills. The child's progress is closely monitored and assessed against the UK Early Learning Goals.

Through structured play, children develop their speaking and listening skills and their ability to interact effectively with others. A lively programme of field trips, events and activities enriches their learning. Supported by a well-resourced library, computer facilities and designated playground areas, children in KG are encouraged to explore and develop their natural abilities and talents.

At CISG, we value and welcome communication and feedback from parents. We believe that a strong and purposeful school-parent partnership is essential to give each child the best support possible in their education. For this reason, we have a comprehensive system of communication between the school and parents. Through the weekly online Gazette, written reports, a school management system and Parent Teacher Meetings, parents are informed on a regular basis about the progress of their child and kept up to date about activities within the school.

Parents are welcome to discuss their child's individual progress and any concerns they may have, by making an appointment through the Parent Relations Officer (PRO) to meet the teacher concerned or the Principal. The Parent Relations Officer’s role is to be the point of communication for parents with the school and parents should feel free to contact the PRO for assistance with any query.
